Travel printers make it possible to print documents while on the go. They are especially handy while working on vacation and the need to print something arises. Due to the portability in this type of printer, it is small and lightweight which makes it easy to pack and stow.

These types of printers usually allow bluetooth connections and printing from usb drives. The ink is a cartridge and can spill just like any full size ink cartridge. The battery life on this type of printer usually lasts a few hours or few hundred pages before it is drained. They usually come with an AC adapter for plugging in and charging. Some also have the capability to charge via the cigarette lighter in the car.
Compact Thermal Printers: This is the most portable type of printer due to the small size of the unit. These printers are usually no bigger than a necklace box. The method for transferring printed images is high quality because it is directly applied to the media with heat.
Compact Photo Printers: This type of portable printer allows for a greater opportunity to share media directly with the device and come with more direct printing capabilities like USB, bluetooth, memory sticks, infrared and more. They usually have a LCD screen display and allow digital cameras to connect directly to the machine. Another important distinction is that this type of printer doesn’t support printing full sized email documents. It is designed to print 4×6 pieces of paper, or pictures. Basically, these printers are designed with photos in mind.
Label Printers: A type of thermal printer that is portable and designed for specifically printing labels. They are small and lightweight, making them extremely portable.
Receipt Printers: Another type of portable thermal printer that is specifically meant to print out receipts of paper.
In order to choose the best printer you can use on vacation, it is important to determine exactly what type of media you will want to print. If you are planning on working on vacation and need a document printer that is portable then a compact thermal printer will probably be better suited for your needs than a compact photo printer. If you are planning on printing photos then you would probably benefit from a compact photo printer.
