Destination: Queen Mary 2

Recently I had the opportunity to embark on a short voyage on Easter Weekend aboard on of the most luxurious cruise ships in the world. The Queen Mary 2 was the vessel, Cunard was our host and we were whisked away to their private island for an extended four day weekend.

This was the first time I had sailed with Cunard and my expectations were high.
One of the things I admired most was the organization and attention to detail. The staff was well-informed and that’s what made the logistics run smoothly. The entire experience was flawless. In case you didn’t know, this ship (and Cunard in general) is a very special ship/line. That’s the other aspect I truly enjoyed. From the time I got out of my car at Pier 12 (in Brooklyn) to the moment I passed through customs on my return, I felt like I was a part of something special. The QM2 had all the amenities I expected, but I especially enjoyed the lectures on topics ranging from wellness to astronomy. Of course, the linens, the spacious cabins, the 24 hour room service, all made for perfect “sea days”.

The food on the Queen Mary 2 definitely had British influence but was delicious. The wait staff (for the most part) was friendly and committed to providing first class service. Speaking of which, be sure to have dinner at Todd English. This was the highlight of the trip.

Did I mention the entertainment? Sorry I was remiss! It was world-class. From the tasteful stand up comedy to the revues and everywhere in between, the entertainment staff outdid themselves on this short jaunt. And be sure to play bingo, it was so much fun!

In the interest of full-disclosure, as a 33 year old male, I have to say this was not the ship for me personally. I mention this, because it is vital you check with your travel agent on WHICH ship, is the right ship for you. We all have different needs and expectations and the experiences do vary from ship to ship as well as the itinerary. However, it was abundantly clear the QM2 was keeping a lot of cruisers very satisfied.

Sailing on the QM2 is a once in a lifetime experience. I truly enjoyed my weekend and now I have a better understanding of why Cunard is beloved by hundreds of thousands of satisfied passengers who return time and time again.
