Fitzpatrick Hotel - New York

Here’s the real deal. If you are in search of the perfect place to rest your pretty little head for an extended weekend, the Fitzpatrick Hotel is just the place for you. Yes, you may notice the Irish influence but it’s the Irish hospitality that’s most notable.

I had the pleasure of staying at this mid town staple in December of 2007. From the moment I walked through the front door, I was greeted with a warm atmosphere and an accommodating staff. Most of the rooms are suites and the hotel has been undergoing a multi million dollar renovation. The attention to detail is everywhere and it’s all because of John Fitzpatrick. He owns two properties, one across the street from Grand Central and the other at 57th and Lexington.

Here a couple of items of interest. My room was on the 5th floor and it was a two room suite. The carpets and draperies were fresh and the décor, classic and simple. Unfortunately I had to get up for work in the morning, or I would have stayed in bed until it was time for afternoon tea. The mattress was amazing! And the bathrobe was a luxurious way to start my day. Normally, I wouldn’t spend time chatting about the facilities, but the lavatory was outstanding. Big but not too big and the toiletries were top notch.

I have to confess, the reason I wanted a late start was because I spent a bit of time downstairs in the newly renovated dining room. The atmosphere was the perfect place for a nightcap and friendly chat with the bartender. The next day I had the pleasure of partaking in a traditional Irish breakfast. I don’t know if it was the “best Irish breakfast in NYC”, but I was just in Ireland and my breakfast at the Fitzpatrick was authentic and delicious. Speaking of a reason to be there, you may want to consider staying at The Fitzpatrick Hotel for St. Patrick’s Day.

My short stay at The Fitzpatrick exceeded my expectations. As I write this, I have yet to meet John Fitzpatrick, but I expect he is genuinely interested in the well-being of his hotel guests. That’s probably why people who stay at the Fitzpatrick return to the Fitzpatrick. And, now I am one of those people.
