Destination: Muncie, IN

My Trip:

Not only is Muncie the home of Ball State University, it’s also the home of Garfield the cat. (The things you can learn from browsing my site!) I visited Muncie as a participant in the International Thespian Festival some years back and was once again surprised by the small delights Midwestern towns can offer. In the middle of Ball State campus there’s suddenly a beautiful 17-acre park called Christy Woods that also includes the Wheeler Orchid collection, which simulates an actual rain forest with rain and frogs and a waterfall! Over on East Memorial Drive is the National Model Aviation Museum that houses the largest collection of model planes in the U.S. (Aside from Garfield, Muncie is also the Model Aviation Capital of the World – THE WORLD!) Point being, Muncie is great small town (sort of small) U.S.A. There are simple joys and silly wonders all around. And, don’t be so quick to judge, as I also saw an amazing performance by the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed one of the best burritos of my life!
