Destination: Milwaukee, WI
My Trip:
A good friend of mine calls Milwaukee her home and I enjoy visiting her often – except in the winter because, man, it’s cold! I’ve had some very funky nights in Milwaukee. One in particular was at a swanky cocktail lounge made out of the car of a train. It was one of the coolest bars I’ve ever been to. Problem is, I knew the name of the place before I entered, but can’t seem to remember its name now that I’ve left. Promise to get back to you with that one (or ask the concierge...they’re sure to know). But keep the beer to a minimum and visit some of Milwaukee’s neighborhoods; they’re all very different and all worth the time: Yankee Hill, the Third Ward, Veteran’s Park right on the shore of Lake Michigan, and the very cool Brady Street. There are always plenty of interesting coffee shops and performances to enjoy so pick up a copy of “Vital Source” to check out all the best happenings going on while you’re there. It’s a consistently fun and reliable read. The other thing I always do is spend a night at one of the true cathedrals of Milwaukee – the Bowling Alley! Yes, kids, this is the bowling capital of the U.S. and they have the shoes to prove it! (Tip: try to book a flight on Midwest Airlines – they’re a nice little “Jet Blue” type airline flying directly into Milwaukee)
