Travel Guide Memphis Tennessee
My Trip:
Travel Guide Memphis Tennessee - my first trip to Memphis, TN. was in October of 2006 and I had a blast. Although it sounds a bit corny, I was consumed with the overwhelming feeling that this city was alive with the sound of amazing rock and soul music. It’s a feeling that can only be felt by visiting this historic city on the Mississippi River. On my trip, I stayed at both The Hampton Inn on Beale Street and the Sleep Inn at Court Square. The hotel of note is the legendary Peabody Hotel on Union Avenue.
To get the local flavor, I spent time at The Rock and Soul Museum, Sun Studios, and of course, Graceland. There are literally hundreds of genuine attractions in Memphis. Depending on your interests, you’re sure to find plenty to don on your visit. I also enjoyed, The National Civil Rights Museum on Mulberry Street and Mud Island. This may sound a bit strange but be sure to see the Peabody Ducks. To see what I mean, be sure to stop by the lobby of the Peabody hotel at either 11:00am or 5:00pm Monday through Friday (check with the Hotel for exact times and days). I promise you may be surprised at what you find!
For authentic Memphis BBQ, I had dinner at The Rendezvous on 2nd Street. It’s a little hard to locate but check the alley off Monroe and you can’t miss the sign. For other dining options, check out Alcenias, Blues City Café or Gus’s World Famous Hot & Spicy. After dinner don’t miss the truly awesome Beale Street. Places you may want to check out are: Alfred’s, Legends on Beale or Rum Boogie Café. Yes, they also have a Hard Rock Café and a Coyote Ugly.
In the summer months it does get a bit humid so my next trip will probably be in either the Spring or early fall. Winter is also a great time to visit Memphis.
Memphis is a unique American city and although I am not a musical “fanatic”, I found Memphis to be truly terrific. Enjoy your next trip as much as I enjoyed writing this travel guide Memphis Tennessee!
