Destination: Honolulu, HI

My Trip:

Honolulu , Hawaii

I first visited Honolulu with my family when my Dad had to check on a construction project for his firm. On the first day I found this awesome tiki doll. My stupid brother, however, decided to wear it around his neck during his surfing lesson and almost got killed. I knew then I had found something very mysterious and had to dispose of it at the ancient burial -- Wait. Sorry. That was Bobby Brady's trip, not mine. When I went, I'm not sure I even left the beach (although, I must have had a hotel room somewhere!). Is there any better experience that sitting on a wide sandy beach, listening to the rustle of the giant palms, while watching a bunch of Gidgets ad Moondoggies getting drunk on Mai-Tais?

But should you find yourself a bit sun drenched, definitely check out some of the interesting attractions like the Bishop Museum, the best Polynesian museum in the world; the Hawaii State Art Museum, a tremendously designed gallery that showcases great artists who have lived on the island; Shangri La, the 1930s-era home of heiress and philanthropist Doris Duke; and 'Iolani Palace, the grand final residence of the last monarchs of Hawaii.

A couple of things I downright demand you do include paying your respects at Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial Museum; and hiking the trail to the crater on the top of Diamond Head where you'll get an awesome 360 degree view of O'ahu. Both experiences are ones you won't soon forget! After you've worked up an appetite, head on over to Keo's for some of the best Thai food in the entire United States ! Then stop off for some boozy fun at House Without a Key, located in the Halekulani Hotel, with its open-air bar for sunset cocktails, Hawaiian music and hula dancing by a former Miss Hawaii .
