This, my friends, is where it all began. Where the seed was sewn. Where the lawn was mowed. Where the driver’s permit was obtained. Yes, this is my hometown and I still love it! I think it’s a classis large Midwest City. Sure it has some urban sprawl, but I like urban sprawl! Des Moines also has a very cool historic district called Sherman Hill, which has some of the most incredible Victorian homes you will ever see. It has a PGA Golf course - Glen Oaks, and a world-renowned art gallery – The Des Moines Art Center (with the main location on Grand Avenue and another funkier version Downtown.) Some personal favorites and insider tips: Eat at Noah’s Ark Restaurant and Fireside Lounge for some amazing old-school Italian; drink at The Royal Mile and choose from about a million kinds of beer; and stay at the Renaissance Savory Hotel because I said so. I don’t want to play favorites or anything, but Des Moines also has a very techno skywalk system going from most buildings downtown so you don’t have to go out in the cold. Beat that Philly!
