The reality is, if you haven’t been to Atlantic City recently, it’s time to get over there sooner than you can say “I think I’ll double down on that 11”. Why, you may ask? Because Atlantic City has stepped up it’s game in more ways than one. My last trip to AC was in March of 2007 and I had a blast.
In my opinion casinos (at least on the inside) are pretty much designed to optimize one thing: GAMBLING. Fortunately for me, I love to gamble, but when I seek out cities to gamble in, it’s not just the casinos I consider. To me, it’s what’s around the casinos that counts. I look for GREAT food, shopping and recreational activities. Atlantic City didn’t used to have those (in abundance). Now, they do. Not to mention, AC is situated right on the Atlantic Ocean!
First let’s talk lodging. On my trip, I stayed at the Tropicana. This place is enormous! However, I had no trouble checking in because they had SO many front desk employees ready to assist. By the way, I check in with the normal people at the regular check in area. My room was located in the Havana Tower which required me to walk through the amazingly beautiful “Quarter”. This unique indoor shopping and eating pavilion was unreal. Be sure to get there to eat at Carmines, Red Square or Cuba Libre. The Quarter is also home to their IMAX theater and The Blue Mercury Spa. Ask for Elizabeth when ordering your Swedish massage. My actual room wasn’t anything special, but it was clean, spacious and the staff was very friendly helpful and attentive.
One of my best memories of my trip to AC was The Pier Shops at Caesars. It truly is breathtaking. High end shopping PLUS award-winning restaurants…what a great combination. On my trip, I had dinner at Sonsie’s and then danced the night away at Game On! Thanks to Vince for all the arrangements and for preventing me from riding the mechanical bull…that would have been ugly. This is one of those places that no matter how much I write, it won’t do it justice. Just make sure you visit the indoor fountain and all three floors. It is visually stunning. Even if the budget is tight, be sure to include it on your itinerary…you’ll thank me later.
Needles to say, I had a great time in Atlantic City. Oh! Did I mention I did gamble while I was there? Some of my favorite casinos are The Boardwalk and the Borgata.
They are starting to call Atlantic City “the city that’s always on…” and after this trip, I understand why. Enjoy your trip as you rediscover Atlantic City, New Jersey.
